Christian Discipleship Books

Christian discipleship books abound. But over the years I've found that the list of truly great books on discipleship is rather small. There are other books I could and may in the future include. But this list is a good start.

General Christian Discipleship Books

The books on discipleship in this section discuss discipleship in general: what it is, why it's important, etc.

Spiritual Discipleship: Principles of Following Christ for Every Believer
By J. Oswald Sanders

The Great Omission: Reclaiming Jesus' Essential Teachings on Discipleship
By Dallas Willard

The Cost of Discipleship
By Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Christian Books on the Spiritual Disciplines

There are several great books (some considered classics) on the spiritual disciplines. But for most of us, this one book is the best and easiest to read Christian book on the subject.

The Life You've Always Wanted

"How To" Christian Discipleship Books

These books take you from theory to practice. They show you how to make disciples.

The Complete Book of Discipleship: On Being and Making Followers of Christ
By Bill Hull

Lifestyle Discipleship: The Challenge of Following
By Jim Petersen

Discipleship as Political Responsibility
By John Howard Yoder

Christian Discipleship in the Church

This list of books on discipleship discusses the integration of the Great Commission with the local church. That is, these books try to answer the question, "What should/does discipleship look like in the church?"

Missional Church: A Vision for the Sending of the Church in North America
By Edited by Darrell L. Guder

The Ministry of the Missional Church: A Community Led by the Spirit

This list may not be exactly what you were expecting to find on a site dedicated to helping you better appreciate and partner with your pastor. If so, instead of Christian discipleship books look at these general clergy books.
