Friedenru (Peaceful Rest) - Maine

by Curtiss Kanagy
(Anson, Maine, USA)

When we moved to Central Maine to follow God's call in ministry we never could have imagined how blessed we would be! Through the goodness of God He has allowed us to serve Him in many different ways and showing hospitality to those in ministry has brought us great joy. Just as God has blessed us we desire to pass on that blessing!

The Cabin is "off grid" which allows simplicity of life and a great foundation to find the rest that so many in ministry need. We do not offer programs but can direct you to spiritual resources during your stay. We do not charge for your stay, but do accept donations as the Lord leads.

We use the term "Friedenru" which is PA Dutch for "Peaceful Rest" to describe the feel of the cabin. Being in ministry ourselves we understand the demands that it places on individuals and families. Our hope is that as you come to stay you will find a place to hear from God, seek His presence and feel His peace.

You can see pictures of the cabin here and can contact us at clkanagy@gmail.com.

Peace to your home,
Curtiss

Exceeded our expectations!
by: CarrIe & Dan Kaighen

Beautiful, peaceful, very private cabin in the woods for our honeymoon. We will always be thankful for the week that we were able to just relax, read, walk and enjoy the beauty of God's creation. This is the most interesting cabin being off grid with well water and solar power. We thoroughly enjoyed living without internet, and phones. The fire pit was easy to use and we made great food with the fire irons. Amen. Can't wait to go back again someday and spend time with my husband and with God. Thank you Bro. Curtiss and Mrs. Robin. God bless your ministry.

Blessing
by: Pastor Charlie

What a great time of worship and peace with my wife here. Wonderful hosts and setting. We were blessed beyond expectations. THANK YOU. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. Peaceful rest is a great title for this ministry. I would have no problem recommending this for anyone in ministry or in need of rest and time alone with God. Thank you again Charlie and PJ

Restful Peace
by: Dave Boots

The unit was beautiful and peaceful. It was definitely out in the sticks for those of us who live in the city. No internet, no cable or TV for that matter, no phone line, Verizon cell phone service was good for my family.

This is a great place for pastors who want to get away for rest and peace. However, if you are interested in traveling around and seeing sights please make allowances for time, money, and any toll road costs.

This is in a great setting and many cool features for those who want to be off the grid!

A Real Retreat
by: Rob Killeffer

Friedenru was a God-send to me this Spring! After church budget cuts, it seemed that there wouldn't be any opportunity for a retreat this year. My wife discovered Friedenru and the
Kanagy's were kind enough and very gracious to make their house available on short notice.

If you need Sabbath rest, if you appreciate silence and solitude, if you need to re-connect with the Lord without distractions, Friedenru is the place for you.

A perfect place to hear God's Spirit
by: Rick Kavanaugh

My stay at Friedenau was inspiring. The cabin surpassed my expectations. I wasn't sure what to expect from the pictures, but it is beautiful and very comfortable. It sits off the beaten path in a stand of trees, hidden from the world; a perfect place to pray, reflect, read and refresh. I retreat every year and this location will stay on my list of places I wish to visit again.

A Catalyst Cabin Experience!
by: Anonymous

My best friend and ministry partner of over 20 years spent a week at Friedenru. Not only was it beyond our expectations for quiet, peaceful, and ideal for contemplative prayer but the hospitality was humbling. I left with a new vision and a heart prepared for two significant change which came the week after returning I do not feel I could have been ready for without the time away in such a serene context. Friedenru was a catalyst for the new things the Lord wanted us to be prepared to hear and embrace. If yo hare looking for a great vacation spot with plenty of things to do and several amenities, the is NOT the place for you. If you are looking for a place off the grid, quiet, nature-heavy, prayer conducive, and rest filled, FRIDENRU and its owners, Curtiss and Robin are a more than ideal option.

Wonderful place!

Beautiful cabin, gorgeous setting. We absolutely loved our few days there as a family (with 3 young children). It was a good time to be unplugged, rest, and reconnect as a family. Thank you to our hosts for a wonderful get-away!

A true blessing
by: Amy and Tim

We are both pastors of small churches in New Jersey and were looking for a place to stay that was quiet and peaceful so we could reconnect with each other and with God. We spent a glorious four nights and had a very peaceful time living off the grid. We read books, planned sermons and Bible studies, enjoyed nature, and realized that we had become addicted to our electronics. I cannot thank Curtiss and Robin enough for their hospitality (delicious pancakes and syrup) as well as sharing their blessing with other pastors.

Quiet Cabin in the Woods
by: Anonymous

This cabin is quietly nestled in the woods and offers a great place for a couple or family to get away for some rest. The cabin is like a house with most conveniences but you can enjoy the peacefulness of the woods as well. I greatly appreciate my time in the Friedenru cabin and this family for their generosity in sharing it with fellow pastors. Thanks!

Wonderful, Peaceful Refuge
by: Pastor Buck

My wife and four children spent a serene, unplugged week at the Kanagy's wonderful cabin. My children called it the "best vacation week ever." More than a mere vacation, it was a time of retreat and rest. We spent most days just enjoying the beauty of the property as our children played in the wooded area near the fire pit. The area around the cabin is great for walking with beautiful wildflowers (in June.) We would love to come again in the Fall at some point. Thanks so much Pastor Curtiss and Robin for you incredible hospitality.

Beautiful Cabin Tucked Away
by: Jeff McLain

I needed to concentrate on some thinking and some writing. Friedenru was suggested to me. Friedenru is located back a long driveway off an already unbeaten path. The cabin sits in a small clearing in the deep Maine woods and within walking distance to a beautiful bog. Coyotes yip at night and the stars dance brightly. It was such a relaxing and beautiful Cabin in the fall, that we are going up to experience in the spring as well in just a few weeks.

beyond our expectations
by: Robert Cook

When Curtiss offered the use of his cabin for a week to re energize our bodies, minds, and spirits we envisioned a dark rustic cabin filled with spiders and other creatures. We were way off base. We could not imagine the beauty awaiting us. As the cabin appeared in the clearing we were all shocked and even more blown away when we opened the door. The cabin was beautiful. It was 5 star all the way.Curtiss had even left pancake mix, homemade maple syrup and popcorn, among other things. It was so peaceful. There is a big swing next to a fire pit. We saw shooting stars every night. We were so blessed. We are booked again for this September. We highly recommend it.
